Opal McMahon, 78, of Colonial Drive, died at 6:22 pm on Thursday, October 30, 2008, at Marietta Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 1:30 pm at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with burial in Gravel Bank Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2:00 pm on Monday.
She was born on December 9, 1929, in Washington County to Albert Kuehn and Flora Lightfritz. She was a member of VFW Auxiliary and had been employed at Marietta Memorial Hospital as a LPN.
She was married to Ervin J. McMahon who preceded her in death. She is survived by 4 sons and 2 daughters: Lewis and Ken McMahon of Marietta, Don McMahon of Canton, Russell McMahon, Joyce and Melinda McMahon of Marietta, 5 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by 2 brothers, 1 sister, 2 grandchildren.
Gerald J. Congleton
Gerald J. Congleton, 76, of Newport passed away at 4:36 am on Wednesday, October 29, 2008 at Marietta Memorial Hospital.
He was born on July 2, 1932, in Washington County, to Charles and Ada McGregor Congleton. After graduating from Lawrence High School, he joined the U.S. Army and served in Korea. Gerald had been employed by Ohio Bell Telephone Company as an installer and retired from AT&T. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and a charter member of The Little Muskingum Volunteer Fire Department where he had served as Chief.
On October 25, 1952, Gerald married Doris Moose who survives with son Gary (Sue) Congleton of Newport and daughter Pam Singer of Marietta. Also surviving are grandchildren Joy (Steve) Lutes of Washington, DC, Eric (Elishia) Congleton of Newport, Shannon (Curtis) Warner of Friendly, WV and great grandchildren Caroline Warner, Bryce and Kate Congleton. His sister Esther Roher of Westerville, Ohio also survives.
In addition to his parents, a brother Earl Congleton and sister Jane Krabill preceded him in death.

Ruth M. Vanwey
Ruth M. Vanwey, 92, passed away on October 27, 2008, at The Arbors where she had been a patient for 2 weeks. She previously had been a resident of Hannah’s House.
Ruth was born on August 5, 1916, in Marietta to Herman M. and Lulu M. Abicht Weyrich. On January 18, 1938, she married Donald R. Vanwey who preceded her in death on May 16, 1986. They were parents of one daughter, Karen K. Lemley of Coolville, a grandson Richard Lemley and his wife Serena of Coolville, and great grandson Jacob. Also surviving is a brother Charles R. Weyrich and wife Adrienne of Fleming, brother-in-law Floyd Berg of Marietta, sister-in-law Helen Weyrich of Orlando, FL, nieces Susan and Elaine Weyrich of FL, Judy Holback of Marietta and Teresa (Bill) Benton of Fleming and 4 great nephews.
Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother Bill, sister Anita, and son-in-law Gary Lemley.
Ruth enjoyed being a member of 55 plus and volunteering at Marietta Memorial Hospital, playing bingo, doing crossword puzzles and playing the organ and piano. She was a member of Christ Untied Methodist Church in Marietta.

Margaret Ruth (Ullman) Thomas, 85 years old, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 15th, 2008 in Clearwater, FL. Margaret was born July 19, 1923 in Noble County, Ohio. A 1941 graduate of Elk Raul High School, Margaret was a 50-year member of Aurelius Chapter #60 Order of the Eastern Star and a Past Worthy Matron, a retiree of Harts Department Store, and faithful member of the Northwest Tampa Church of Christ. She is preceded in death by her parents Robert and Mary Ullman, brothers George and Robert Ullman, and most recently by her son James Thomas. She is survived by her husband of 66 years Harley Thomas, sister Jean (Earl) Schramm, daughter Ann (Bill) Kinkead, son Rob (Kim) Thomas, daughter-in-law Pam Thomas, grandchildren Erica Geiger, Chris Thomas, Chad (Aileen) Thomas, Jamie (Jason) Price, Tiffany (John) Tharanick, and Melissa Thomas, as well as by her four great granddaughters Emily, Elizabeth & Megan Geiger, and Taylor Thomas. Margaret was a devoted Christian and loving wife, sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she will be dearly missed by numerous relatives and friends.
Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family for relatives and closest friends. Mary Etta Hutchins
Mary Etta Tice Hutchins, 75, of Montgomery Street, passed away Monday, October 13, 2008 at the Edgewood Manor of Wellston.
She was born in Marietta on April 4, 1933 to the late Dorsey Freeman Tice and Mary Jane West Tice. She was raised in Ledlow Township in Washington County.
She is survived by her daughters Nancy Ferrara of Wellston and Barbara Offenberger of Marietta. One sister Ruby Brown also survives.
In addition to her parents, a daughter Julia Price and 12 brothers and sisters preceded her in death.
A memorial service will be held at 4 pm on Thursday, October 30 at the Marietta Center for Health and Rehabilitation at 117 Barlett Street. McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home is assisting with the arrangements.
Larry E. Theobald
Larry Edward Theobald, 77, of Franklin Street, Marietta, died at 11:55 am on Wednesday, October 22, 2008, at Harmar Place.
He was born on January 15, 1931, in Newport, Ohio, a son of Edward and Delilia Hoff Theobald. He had been employed at Ormet, retiring in January, 1994. Larry was a member of United Steelworkers of American 5724, American Legion Post 64 and VFW Post 5108. He was a Korean War Veteran. Larry enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Larry is survived by his daughter Tammy (John) Heddelson of New Matamoras and granddaughter Dana, 2 stepdaughters: Ginny (Dave) King and Lora (Jeff) Holbert; 5 stepsons: Terry (Mary) Ward, Larry Ward, Alan (Janet) Ward, Rick (Angie) Ward, Jim (Jackie) Ward, 14 step grandchildren and 8 step great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Timmy Theobald and daughter, Nila Theobald.

Anna P. McAtee, 84, of Milner Road, Waterford, Ohio, passed away at 12:45 am on Tuesday, October 21, 2008, at Marietta Memorial Hospital.
She was born on December 29, 1923, in Pleasants County, WV, to Thomas Asher Russell and Iowa Daisy Mills Russell. She had been employed at Hilltop Restaurant and Wood County Board of Elections. Anna enjoyed being with her family and grandchildren.
On August 25, 1944, Anna married Virgil H. McAtee who preceded her in death on August 24, 1996. She is survived by 2 sons: Virgil Eugene (Debbie) McAtee of Pennsboro, WV and Dennis Wayne (Cindy) McAtee of Waverly, WV, daughter-in-law Beverly McAtee of Newport, grandchildren: Tommy (Michelle) McAtee, Pauletta (Jay) Seevers, Chrystal (Bo) Murphy, Bruce (Louise) McAtee, Brian McAtee, Bradley (Brittany) McAtee, Jacklyn (Eric) Clark, Adam (Tinika) McAtee and 18 great grandchildren. Also surviving is her brother James Russell, 4 sisters: Leone Campbell, Leah Barnhouse, Doris Ewing and Rosalie Lewis.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son Richard “Tom” McAtee and 2 brothers: Lloyd and Henry Russell, 2 sisters: Virginia Nichols and Elsie Otto Wilson.

Karl W. Zartman, Sr.
Karl William Zartman, Sr, of Sandhill Road, passed away on Monday, October 20, 2008 at Heartland of Marietta.
He was born on December 26, 1925, in Wauseon, Ohio, a son of Karl Emanuel and Mary Elizabeth Wack Zartman. Karl attended both Heidelberg College and Ohio State University and was retired Principal of Lawrence Elementary and a teacher at Newport Schools. He had served in the U. S. Navy during WWII in the Pacific Theater 1943 – 1946 and during the Korean War from 1950 to 1952. He was a member of United Dutch Reformed Church, Frontier Lions Club and Past District Governor of Ohio District 13K from 1984-1985, VFW, American Legion, Masons, Shrine, and Knigths Templar. He enjoyed woodworking and reading.
Karl married Alberta Zartman who preceded him in death on October 12, 1997. He is survived by his 2 sons: Ronald K. Zartman of Newberg, OR, and Karl W. Zartman, Jr. of Newport; stepsons: Wayne Allen (Kathleen) Kuhn of Laguna Niguel, CA, and James Kuhn of Florida; grandchildren: Emily Zartman, Jeb Zartman, Alex Zartman, Levi Zartman, Dan (Michelle) Kuhn, James Kuhn, Karen (Emory) Sweat, Mark Kuhn and great granddaughter, Felicia Zartman, Also he is survived by his sister, Kathryn Sommerlatte, and nephews Donald and James Wilson.
Karl was preceded in death by his wife and parents.

Nancy Goodman Cox
Nancy Goodman Cox, 89, of Front Street, passed away 1:50 pm October 18, 2008 at Heartland of Marietta.
On February 24, 1919 she was born to the late Freeman and Junia Hinton Morgan in Constitution. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church.
Surviving is her son William (Hilda) Goodman Jr. and grandchildren Rhonda (David Eckels), George (Kristine) Goodman and James (Lori Ann Williams) Goodman. Also surviving are 6 great grandchildren Randy Davis, Amanda Davis, Britney Martin, Alex Goodman, Cory Goodman and Carl Goodman, 7 great great grandchildren, bother Roy Morgan of Florida and Barbara McCulley of Marietta.
Nancy married William Goodman, Sr. on October 29, 1938, who preceded her in death in 1965. She later married James Cox who also preceded her in death. 2 sisters and 7 brothers preceded her in death.

James “Jim” Huff
James “Jim” Huff, 81, of Marietta died 10:05 am, October 17, 2008 at his home after a long-term illness.
He was born in Rector, AK, to Freeman & Turna May Mailer Huff on February 11, 1927. Jim served in the United Sates Navy from 1946 to 1948 and was a lifetime member of VFW post #64. He drove 18 Wheelers for over 30 years and retired from Ford Brothers in themed 80’s. He enjoyed fishing, watching racing on T.V. and Loved to play Blue Grass music. He especially loved his children and grand children deeply.
On January 29, 1946 he married Helen Spence who survives with his son Phil (Cheryl) Huff of Beverly, daughter-in-law Donita Huff of Fultonham, Ohio and grandchildren Keith (Crystal) Huff of Lowell, Chad (Amber) Huff of Texas, Craig (Amanda) Huff of Dayton, Susan Huff of Fultonham, ohio and Beverly Huff of Lancaster. Also surviving are great grandchildren Christian Huff and Brian Huff of Texas; Chance Huff of Dayton; Aidyn Kohler of Fultonham, and Abigail Huff of Dayton. Two step-grandchildren Tyler Domino and Brooke Stevens both of Beverly and sisters Frank Huff and Jean Huff both of Arkansas also survive.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by sons Carl and James Huff and grandson Rickie Huff.

Mary L. Gray
Mary L. Gray, 78, of Brant Drive, passed away 5:55 am Friday, October 17, 2008 at Marietta Memorial Hospital.
She was born on January 5, 1930 to the late Clifford and Mae Smithberger Leasure. Mary graduated from Marietta High School and later worked for Ohio Bell as an telephone operator. She was a homemaker and had been a member of the Harmar Hill Church of Christ.
On September 24, 1949 she married Talmage Gray who survives with children Deborah (J.R. Smith) Cox of Richmond, KY, Alicia (Jim) Walls of Logan and T.J. (Natalie) Gray of Marietta. Also surviving are grandchildren Dr. Teri Cox of Covington, KY, Keeper Gray, Ty Gray, Eli Gray, Emrie Gray all of Williamstown and Sadie Gray of Marietta. Her brother John Leasure of Scottsdale, AZ and sister Betty Burton of Marietta, also survive.

Abraham Miles Wagner
Abraham Miles Wagner, 97, passed away on October 15, 2008 at Eagle Pointe Nursing Home.
He was the son of the late Waldo and Laura Miller Wagner. He was a member of the United
Methodist Church in West Lafayette, Ohio, where he taught the West Lafayette Bugler Sunday School class. He worked his way through the High School in three years and was class valedictorian. He received his BA from Glenville State College and his MA from Marshall University. He completed additional work at the University of Buffalo and at Columbia University. He taught in Maryland, 3 School districts in Parkersburg, West Virginia, and Ohio — a total of forty years. His greatest joy in life was in transforming a child into a beautiful writer.
He worked in Quality Control in the H. J. Heinz plant in Medina, New York. He was superintendent of Quality Control in the Doeler-Jarvis Plant in Batavia, New York. At that time they were the world's largest producers of die-castings. He worked in Kaiser Aluminum Plant in Ravenswood, West Virginia. On the last hour of his last day they called him up to the main office and told him that he was the best man that they ever hired since the plant was built and that they wanted him to know that before he left. His travels took him all over North America and Europe. He loved farming. Early on he grew strawberries in West Virginia and New York. Later he truck farmed in Ohio.
He was married to Nell “Judy” Wagner who pass away on June 7, 1997.
Surviving is his son Max (Anita) Wagner, grandson Nathan Wagner, and great grandson Nathan B. and Hyden all of Parkersburg.
In addition to his parents and wife, 9 brothers and sisters preceded him in death.

Mary L. Patterson
Mary L. Patterson, 82, of Marietta, passed away 3:35 am Wednesday, October 15, 2008 at Harmar Place.
She was born on November 25, 1925, to Charles and Mildred Hutchinson Hall on Long Run in Marietta and had attended Yankeeburg School. She was a homemaker all her life and was a member at the 6th and Washington Street Church of Christ.
On November 9, 1947 she married Robert Patterson, Sr. who survives with children: Robert Patterson Jr., Ted (Susie) Patterson and Betty (Steve) O’Linn all of Marietta. Also surviving are grandchildren Tammy Thomas, Sandra Seevers, Melinda Crone, Jeremy Patterson and Amy O’Linn, 7 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. Her brother James (Ida) Hall also survives.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister Irene Grayson and brothers George Hall and Gale Hall. A daughter-in-law Eva Patterson also preceded her in death.

Anna S. Hansell, 92, of Glendale Road died at 7:20 pm on Saturday, October 11, 2008 at Marietta Memorial Hospital.
She was born on September 16, 1916, in Equinunk, PA, a daughter of Frank and Frances Kessler Lacey. She was a member of Belpre Church of Christ and was a homemaker.
Anna was married to Martin A. Hansell, Sr. who preceded her in death on July 11, 1993. She is survived by 1 son and 3 daughters: Frances (James) Burdick of Center City, KY, Faith (Paul) Walzak of Sunbury, OH, Martin A. (Cheryl) Hansell, Jr. of Marietta, Charlene (Richard) Fiorella of East Amherst, NY, 10 grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and infant brother, Claude.

Tracy L. Ramage
Tracy Lynn Seevers Ramage, 41, of Rosenbush Road, Newport, passed away on Wednesday morning, October 8, 2008, at her home.
She was born on October 21, 1966, in Marietta, a daughter of Roger Lee (Vicki) Seevers of Newport and Rose Mary Pabst Seevers Shumar of Newport. Tracy was a graduate of Marietta High School Class of 1985 and had been employed as a manager at Bob Evans and Brusters Ice Cream before her illness. She loved spending time with her children and family.
On February 14, 1993, Tracy married Carlin Keith Ramage who survives with one son and two daughters: Brandon Lee Thomas Seevers, Carley Nicole-Rose Ramage and Isabella Madison-Grace Ramage of the home. Also surviving are 4 brothers: Richard (Robin) Seevers, Jay (Pauletta) Seevers, Jeromy (Natalie) Seevers, Lenny Seevers all of Newport, 6 nieces, 7 nephews, 3 great nieces, several uncles, aunts, cousins and loving friends.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Thomas and Vera Seevers, maternal grandparents, Edwin and Ella Pabst, sister-in-law Katrina Seevers.

William E. Knotts
William E. Knotts, 59, of Brush Road, Marietta, passed away at 5:16 am on Monday, October 6, 2008.
He was born in Marietta on October 29, 1948, a son of Bernard L. and Ernestine Bonham Knotts of Marietta. He had worked in construction.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his brother Bernard L. (Kimberley Gaskins) Knotts of Marietta, Pat Lohr, his partner in life, and their daughters: Shilo (Edgar) Science and their son Brice Science, Shawna Lohr and her daughters, Cynthia Brutchey and Dereka Brutchey all of Marietta.
He was preceded in death by his father and son Joey Knotts.
Memorial services will be held at the Open Door Baptist Church on Thursday, October 9th, at 2:00 pm with Reverend Keith Kapple officiating. Family will greet friends at the church one hour before the service.

Donald C. Creamer
Donald Clair Creamer, 77, formerly of Marietta, passed away at 5:15 am on Monday, October 6, 2008, at his home in Williamstown.
He was born on January 15, 1931, a son of John Franklin Creamer and Garnet Temptest “Mike” Heiney Creamer. Don had been employed at Union Carbide Metals for 33 years as a supervisor until his retirement. He was a member of the Williamstown Church of Christ, Moose Lodge, Fraternal Order of Eagles, American Legion Post 64, was a veteran of the U. S. Marine Corps during Korean Conflict, enjoyed watching football and baseball and old westerns and in his younger years loved hunting, fishing, and working outdoors. He enjoyed spending time with his family.
Don married Patricia Ann McCloud who preceded him in death. He is survived by 3 daughters: Mari Lynn (Randy) Petty of Whipple, Dorothy Jean (Gordon) Bauman of Marietta, Terri (Jeff) Martin of Williamstown; 7 grandchildren: Angi (Terry) Johnson, Randy (Mila) Bauman, Josh (Natasha) Petty, Donald Cody Creamer-Bauman, Tricia Martin, Ashlee Martin, Ryan Martin; 5 great grandchildren: Kelsey Johnson, Laken Johnson, TaiAnna Martin, Conner Petty, Adrianna Petty. Also surviving are 1 brother and 1 sister: Russell (Iris) Creamer of Litchfield, OH, and Ruth Carroll of Davisville, WV and several nieces and nephews.

Charles R. Grayson
Charles Raymond Grayson, 73, of Devola, died Friday, October 6, 2008, at 11:00 am in Riverside Hospital in Columbus.
He was born on October 28, 1934, in Columbus, Ohio, to Freda Alice Grayson. Charlie was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army during Korea at which time he became disabled and was a life member of VFW Post 5108. He enjoyed all sports, especially Marietta Girls Basketball, and taking long walks. Charlie loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
On September 26, 1956, Charlie married Joanne Leak who survives with 2 sons and 3 daughters: Charles Alan (Barb) Grayson, Sandy Koufax (Carol) Grayson, Debra (Christoper) Kephart and Gina Weinstock and her special friend Jim Camden, all of Marietta, and Stephanie (David) Townsend of Waterford, 5 grandchildren: Nathan and Sommer Kephart, Erica Weinstock, Chastity Lang, Chance Grayson; 3 step grandchildren: Carey McGraw, Jon and Marc Townsend; and 10 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, October 8th, at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with Pastor Don Kirby officiating. Charles J. Postlewait, Jr.
Charles Joseph Postlewait, Jr., 60, of Lawton Road, Marietta, went home to be with his Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday, October 3, 2008.
He was born on April 10, 1948, in Pomeroy, Ohio, a son of Charles Postlewait and Helen Adams Postlewait of Vienna, WV. He retired from Eramet and was an active member of Evergreen Bible Church.
On November 6, 1976, Chuck married Ginger Nichols who survives with 3 sons and 2 daughters: Joshua and wife, Ja Yung, Postlewait of Columbus and grandchildren Caleb and Emilie Postlewait; Tony and wife, Rebekah Postlewait, of Parkersburg; Daniel Nichols of Cedarville University; Renee and husband, Andrew Newland, of Colorado Springs, CO, and grandchildren Ashton, Caedmon, and Jace Newland; Lisa Nichols of Northland Baptist Bible College, Dunbar, WI. Also surviving are brothers: Paul Postlewait of Texas, Vernon Postlewait of Texas, Danny Postlewait of Parkersburg and sisters: Sandra Parr of Vienna, Karon Righter of Parkersburg, Debbie Postlewait of Vienna and Vicki Fannin of Florida.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his sister, Janice Robinson.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, October 7th, at Faith Bible Church with Dr. Steve Thibault officiating. Burial will be in Putnam Cemetery.
