Kathryn Marie Buchman
Kathryn “Katie” Marie Buchman, 79, of Reno, passed away at 5:30 pm on Thursday, December 30, 2010, at her home.
She was born on October 23, 1931, in Worthington, Ohio, a daughter of Murl and Zella Elston Morgan. She was a member of the Valley View Baptist Church and enjoyed her grandchildren, puzzles and watching Tiger Woods play golf.
She married Willard Buchman who preceded her in death.
Katie is survived by 3 daughters: Cathy (Tim) Casparro of Columbus, (Mary) Darlene McFarland of Marietta and Belinda (Terry) Buchman of Marietta; 3 grandchildren: Melisa and Jason McFarland of California, Mandy and Ryan Newlon and Shaun McFarland both of Marietta; 3 great grandchildren: Zachary Newlon, Treyan McFarland and Aleigha McFarland.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday (January 4th) at 11:00 am at Valley View Baptist Church with Pastor Paul Morton officiating. Entombment in East Lawn Mausoleum. Friends may call at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home on Monday from 2:00 pm with family present from 2-4 and 6-8 and at the church 1 hour before the service.
Albert Roy Carter, Sr.
Albert Roy Carter, Sr. of Marietta, and a resident of Marietta Nursing & Rehab Center, passed away peacefully at Marietta Memorial Hospital on Thursday, December 30, 2010.
He was one of several children born September 14, 1932, to the late Charles and Alena Carter. . He worked for Elston Lumber Company for many years.
Albert is survived by 2 children: Albert Roy Carter, Jr. and Ricky Lee Carter; granddaughter, Mysti Dawn Carter; brother Joseph Carter, several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his ex-wife Karen Carter and several brothers and sisters

Janice Ann Burton Quick
Janice Ann Burton Quick, 73, of Marietta, died on Wednesday, December 29, 2010, at Christ Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio.
She was born on July 16, 1937, in Marietta, daughter of Allendale Burton and Lucille June Burton. She graduated from Marietta High School in 1955 and was on the Class Reunion Committee. She was active in the Marietta Senior Citizen Center Bridge Group, was a long standing member of the Rebekah Lodge and was Past Noble Grand, and was a member of Women of the Moose.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Robert Eugene Quick.
She is survived by 3 daughters, Candice Moore and son-in-law Philip Moore of Cincinnati, Ohio, Melody Quick of Kettering, Ohio, Cassandra Pahach and son-in-law Kevin Pahach of Bolivar, Pennsylvania; grandchildren: Anthony Kwiatkowski, Christopher Kwiatkowski and granddaughter-in-law Tera Kwiatkowski, Zachery Moore, Robert Moore, Harrison Moore, Samuel Moore, Chase Pahach and Halie Pahach.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday (January 5th) at 10:30 am at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with Father Christopher Foxhoven officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday after 2:00 with family present from 2-4 & 6-8 pm.
James E. Brown
Another veteran, James E. Brown, 70, of Watertown, passed away at 3:10 pm on Wednesday, December 29, 2010, at OSU Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio.
He was born in Marietta on November 29, 1940, a son of Bill and Nadine Casto Brown. He had been employed at River Oil Company as a truck driver then became owner and operator of B & N “Duke” Service Station and later was employed by Connex and he retired from Laborer’s Union Local 639 in 2002. Jim was a veteran of Vietnam serving in the U. S. Army from 1964 to 1967, was a member of American Legion Post 64, Veterans of Foreign War Post 5108 and the DAV West Virginia Chapter 6.
On June 10, 1972, he married Jacqueline Karcher Fink who survives with 2 sons and 3 daughters: William David Fink, Jr. of Waverly, WV, Debra Doebereiner of Beverly, Gwen Parker of Marietta, Megan (Kristjan) VanWey of New Castle, IN, Dan Brown of Reno, OH; grandchildren: Melinda and Bill Boswell, Ryan and Michele Beebe, Kayla and Kristen Trent, and JW, Nicholas and Cora Brown, 5 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Also surviving are his brother Jack (Rose) Casto of Marietta and half brother Richard Gephart of Marietta
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Sundra Wright and brother, Gary Brown.
Friends may call at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home on Friday (December 31st) from 7 until 9 pm. At his request, his body will be cremated and a graveside service will be held at a later date. James W. Hartshorn, 60, of New Matamoras, passed away on Tuesday, December 28, 2010, at 11:15 pm at Marietta Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Wanita I. Hutchinson
Wanita I. Hutchinson, 73, of Little Hocking, Ohio, passed away at her home at 9:10 pm on Saturday, December 25, 2010.
She was born on January 4, 1937, in Ashland, Ohio, a daughter of Roy and Mary Liston Spindler. Wanita was a homemaker, a social member of VFW Post 1212 in Parkersburg, and enjoyed her family group “Hutch-N-Sons Karaoke,” yard sales and flea markets, and her 3 dogs: BooBoo, Sugar and Peppie.
On March 30, 1957, she married Earl Hutchinson who survives with 3 sons and 2 daughters: Gary (Sherry) Hutchinson, Tammy Clay, Debbie Hutchinson, Jerry (Jennifer) Hutchinson, Mark (Nichole) Hutchinson, 10 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and 2 sisters: Marilyn (Pat) Wagner and Charlene (Vernon) Anderson.
She was preceded in death by her parents and son-in-law Scott Clay.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 pm on Wednesday (December 29th) at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with Steve Morgan officiating. Burial will follow in Lynch Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral after 2:00 pm on Tuesday.
Phyllis Mary Pevarski
Phyllis Mary Pevarski, 80, of New Matamoras fell asleep in death on December 25, 2010.
She was born on May 28, 1930, in Rayland, Ohio, to the late Joseph and Theresa Pietro of Jelsi, Italy. She was a faithful and devout Jehovah’s Witness of the Marietta, Ohio, Congregation.
A loving and supportive wife for 33 years to the late John Pevarski and a devoted mother to her 5 sons: John Allen Pevarski of Reno, NV, Kerry (Lois) Pevarski of New Martinsville, WV, Craig (Diane) Pevarski of Hannibal, OH, Glenn (Nanetta) Pevarski of Marietta, David (Lori) Pevarski of Caldwell. Surviving also are her sisters: Ann Julian of Tiltonville, OH, Mary Biardi of Dillonville, OH, Vivian Suter of Dillonville, OH and a brother Patsy Peitro of Rayland, OH, along with grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John, her son Keith and stepson John Allen
Phyllis enjoyed cooking, baking and found great pleasure in taking care of her family. She also found enjoyment in telling others about the Good News of God’s Kingdom.

Earl A. Sayres
Earl A. Sayres, 77, of Marietta, died at 7:00 pm on Friday, December 24, 2010, at Heartland of Marietta.
He was born on May 2, 1933, in Marietta, to the late Otis and Sylvia Allender Sayres. He attended Marietta High School and had worked at Dravo (Connex) and Dominos. He enjoyed playing music, fishing and Nascar.
On June 27, 1980, he married Linda Morgenstern who survives with 2 daughters: Yvette (Brian) Curtiss of Parkersburg and Rebecca (Mike) Patterson of York, SC; 2 grandchildren, Allison and Braden Curtiss, plus several nieces and nephews and sister Viola Mason of Arizona.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 brothers and 1 sister, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday (December 29th) at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home. Family will be present to greet friends on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8. Memorial contributions in Earl’s memory are requested to the funeral home.
Rosie M. Hawkins
Rosie M. Hawkins, 61, of Marietta, passed away at the home of her sister at 8:30 am on Monday, December 20, 2010.
She was born on March 9, 1949, at Marietta, a daughter of Leander Farnsworth and Louise Mae Mugrage Farnsworth. She was a member of Open Door Baptist Church, Marietta Moose Lodge Auxiliary, American Legion Post 64 Auxiliary , VFW Post 5108 Auxiliary, BPOE Auxiliary. She was a real estate agent for Cranston Real Estate and along with her husband had owned and operated The Maple Café in Marietta. She enjoyed traveling, church functions, and spending time with her grandchildren.
On March 2, 1968, she married Richard G. Hawkins who preceded her in death on March 13, 2004.
Rosie is survived by 1 son and 1 daughter: Richard W. Hawkins and Renee’ (Matt) Williams both of Marietta, 3 grandchildren: Joscelyn R. Miller, Shaylynn R. Hawkins, Camden R. Hawkins; brothers and sisters: Maudie Kitts, Linda Lee, Laura (Francis) Simpson, Ruth (Tim) Burdette, Leander (Lynn) Farnsworth, Larry Farnsworth, Lucy Hickman, several nieces and nephews and her dog “Bandit.”

Mary Jane Ward
Mary Jane Joy Ward, 78, of Eastman, died Wednesday, December 15, 2010 in The Medical Center of Central Georgia, Macon.
Mrs. Ward, a native of New Matamoras, Ohio, was a Homemaker, Daughter of the late Rachel Farnsworth Joy & Clyde Joy and was preceded in Death by a Son- Barry Ward, a brother Harold “Pete” Joy and sister Elma Beaver.
Survivors: Husband- Kenneth A Ward of Eastman, GA; 5 Daughters- Janet Ford of Eastman, Marilyn Washburn, Joan Plessinger, Kathy Morris and Sherry Waterman; 2 Sons- Kenneth Steve Ward and Dave A Ward; 6 Sisters- Glenda, Grace, Sue, Patsy, Jenny & Alice; 2 Brothers- Clyde Jr & Joe; 17 Grandchildren & Several Great-Grandchildren also survive.
Funeral Services are scheduled for 2:00PM Sunday, December 19th, at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with Rev David “Packy” Beaver officiating. Interment will follow in East Lawn Memorial Park. The Family will receive Friends from 5:00PM-8:00PM on Saturday.
Carl Fleming, 88, of Williamstown, passed away on Wednesday, December 15, 2010, at 9:10 am at Marietta Care and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born on September 21, 1922, at Qualey, Washington County, Ohio, a son of Delbert Fleming and Addie Lee Fleming. Carl served in the Civil Conservation Corps, was a veteran of WWII, and retired in 1963 as Chief from the Naval Reserve Aviation Corp. He was employed by Penn Metal that later became Keene and later was employed by Sperry Univac. He was a member of American Legion and VFW.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Ida Jean Jarvis whom he married on September 21, 1949. Also surviving are his 3 sons: Terry of Phoenix, AZ, Ronald (Teresa) of Woodridge, VA and Patrick of Parkersburg; grandchildren: Ian, Seth, Aiden, Effie, Emily, Collin, Matthew, Adam Jessica, Danielle; great grandchildren: Ethan, Quinn, William, Robyn, Paul and Elliott. Carl is also survived by 2 sisters and 3 brothers: Ruth Dickenson, Grace Adams, Herbert Fleming, Richard Fleming and Dean Fleming.
In addition of his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Lois Thompson.

Richard Vernon Walker
Richard Vernon Walker, 92, of Athens, passed away on Thursday, December 9, 2010, at Marietta Memorial Hospital in Marietta, OH.
He was born on March 8, 1918, in Pueblo, CO, a son of Charles Henry and Angeline Isabell Ryan Walker. Richard was a graduate of Taft High School in Taft, CA, earned his BS in Public Health, Masters in Public Health and PhD in Microbiology all at the University of California at Berkley. During WWII, he was a pharmacist mate in the U. S. Navy, serving from November 1941 through September 1945. He was retired as a Professor of Microbiology from the Department of Zoology at Ohio University School of Osteopathic Medicine and was a microbiologist. He was a member of the Athens Church of Christ, American Society of Microbiologist, Past President of Athens Motorcycle Club, active member of Athens Model Railroad Club, and was a self-taught musician of accordion, organ, piano, harmonica and guitar.
On March 3, 1945, he married Neva Tiller who preceded him in death on April 26, 2008. Richard is survived by 2 daughters and 1 son: Charline (Henry) Tomer of Allison Park, PA, Verna Raquepaw of Tucson, AZ and Wendell (Amelia) Walker of Williamstown, WV; grandchildren: Jacob and Jared Valdez of Tucson, Liam and Elise Walker of Williamstown, WV, Kevin and Kyle Tomer of Allison Park, PA, and sister Viola Louise Stumpf of Canon City, CO.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, twin brothers, Wayne and Wendell, and brother Clyde Walker.

Richard S. Wagner, Jr.
Richard S. Wagner, Jr., 57, of Oak Grove, Marietta, passed away at 12:10 am on Monday, December 6, 2010.
He was born on June 10, 1953, in Marietta a son of Richard S. Wagner, Sr. and Marjorie Knox Wagner. He was a truck driver and warehouse supervisor.
On September 29, 2000, he married Deborah Lewis who survives with 2 step daughters and 1 step-daughter from a previous marriage, 2 sisters: Lynn Morris and Jane Lauer both of Marietta, niece Melody Carpenter and her children, Calob and Clay Carpenter, and nephew Tom Lauer.

James L. Greathouse
James L. Greathouse, 62, of Marietta, who was born on May 25, 1948, passed away at 5:21 pm on Friday, December 3, 2010, at Marietta Memorial Hospital.
On May 18, 1969, he married Marjorie Sparks who survives with 2 daughters, Linda (Jeff) of Newport and Teresa (Jeremy) of Kentucky, one self adopted son Eric Eddy of Georgia and 5 grandchildren: Nicki who was raised in the home, Maddie of the home and Kylie, Jalynn and Gavin.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Austin and Eileen Greathouse, one infant sibling and in-laws, Clayton and Pearl Sparks.
He graduated from Newport High School and was employed as a truck driver for Triple I Trucking. He was a wonderful devoted husband who enjoyed picking wild flowers for his wife on his way home from work. He was the greatest dad and grandfather, always by his family’s side and a good friend to others. He enjoyed regular visits with his friends, Jim and Debbie Gessell, and his fun meetings at Biehl Store with friend, Dick Biehl, grilling out with his family and he also enjoyed his animals and riding his 4-wheeler. He will be greatly missed and in our hearts forever. We will love him always.

Lorraine France Bonnette
Lorraine France Bonnette, age 92, of Marietta, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday,December2, 2010.
She was born Nov 21, 1918 to the late Henry and Mary Bryan. She graduated from Wirt County High School in 1936. On Nov. 18,1938 she married Virgil B. Bonnette. She loved her flowers. In the spring she loved planting flowers around her house and they bloomed beautifully for the season. Her specialty was making quilts and she enjoyed quilting and piecing them. She always had a jigsaw puzzle on her table to work and a crossword puzzle book nearby.
She was devoted to her church and her church family. She attended and served in various capacities at the First Church of the Nazarene. She served as a steward, Sunday school teacher and faithful member for many years. Later in her life she attended the Harmar Hill Chapel.
Lorraine is survived by four children, Lowell and his wife Charlene, Roger and his wife, Kathy, Jeanette, Edwin and son-in -law, Ernie Husarik. She is also survived by grandchildren, Jennifer Husarik Lawson, Amy Husarik Varnish, Ellen Bonnette McVicar, Joseph Starkey, Janis Starkey Doak, Ethan Bonnette and Emily Bonnette. She was great grandmother to Abby DiSabato, Santino DiSabato, Lewk Varnish, Faith Varnish, Nathan McVicar, Lucas McVicar, Taylor Starkey, Wyatt Lawson and Braun Doak. Each one of her grandchildren held a special place in her heart and she was so proud of each one. One only needed to sit with her a short while and you would see pictures and hear great stories. She also is survived by many nieces and nephews that meant so much to her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil, daughter, Ann, and son-in-law, John Starkey. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Gilbert Bryan, and sisters, Doris Hylbert and Gertrude Caltrider.
The family would like to express deep appreciation to her caregivers, Pam, Doris, Lois, Sandy, and Bethany. They helped to make her last days comfortable and happy.
The family request that donations be made to the Marietta Memorial Hospice and Home Nursing Service. Lorraine's funeral service will be held on Monday (December 6th) at 1:00pm at Gilman United Methodist Church with Reverend Karl Kesselring and Reverend Melvin Conley officiating.
